The Queensland Government’s new Urban Land Development Authority Act 2007 will enable it to control development and provide a range of affordable housing in urban areas. This bill is part of the Queensland Housing Affordability Strategy, which will be implemented by the Urban Land Development Authority and by amendments to the Integrated Planning Act (1997) and other associated legislation. The intent of the legislation is to give the Land Development Authority the power to undertake land use planning, land amalgamation and acquisitions, land improvement and development assessments for sites nominated by the Queensland Government. Then the Act will enable the Authority to on-sell the land and development rights to private sector developers, attaching specific conditions that may require developers to include a set contribution of affordable housing and meet other Government policy outcomes that improve access to housing and meet the changing needs of the community.
