In 1998 the Minister for Fair Trading announced a 3-part legislative package for the Building & Construction Industry. Amendments to the Queensland Building Services Authority Act addressing security for payment and licensing reforms came into force on 1 October 1999. However, Part 4A of the Act dealing with important reforms to certain building contracts did not come into operation until 1 July 2000. Those provisions, together with the Domestic Building Contracts Act 2000 and the Queensland Building Tribunal Act importantly alter the current law in relation to building contracts as and from 1 July 2000.
