Many people think there is no law in relation to the Internet and that "anything goes" but, in fact, there are many laws that apply to Internet use. Even though most of these rules were not specifically designed for the Internet, traditional "real world" legal principles have been adapted for use in cyberspace.
Liability The Internet is concerned with the transfer of information. What liability would a Web site owner have to an anonymous browser who acts on defective information contained on the Web site?
Creating Links Most Web sites provide links to other Web sites; indeed many are established solely for this purpose. Whilst it is courtesy (or good netiquette) to request the permission of a Web site owner before making a link to that site, the concept of the implied licence operating on the Web probably means that there is no legal requirement for this consent. But there will be categories of links which are unlawful.
