Migration Update

Changes have been made by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to the way in which visas are evidenced.  Many subclass 457 visa holders no longer need a visa label in their passports.

The streamlined system reduces inconvenience by relieving overseas workers from attending a DIAC office and waiting for a visa label to be processed.

The visa and passport details of subclass 457 visa holders are electronically recorded.  The overseas worker is not required to present their visa grant letter in order to travel to, enter and remain in Australia.  Airline staff will electronically confirm that the visa holder has the authority to travel to Australia.

Label free travel is available for those subclass 457 visa holders who hold a passport from a listed country.  The list includes:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hong Kong
  • Hungary
