Experience:
Belinda has six years experience in employment litigation and workplace advisory law. With a particular interest in advocacy, Belinda draws on her commercial litigation experience to represent employees and employers in a range of jurisdictions.
As a Queensland Councillor for the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI), Belinda regularly advises Human Resources Managers on employment related matters and takes an active role in mentoring young human resource professionals.
Belinda has lectured in Equal Employment Opportunity at Griffith University, tutored in Medical Law at the University of Queensland and continues to provide seminars to members of the Queensland Teachers' Union about education law, criminal law and civil liability.
Examples of her experience include:
- Representing clients before the Industrial Commission, Anti-Discrimination Tribunal and Commission, including interlocutory proceedings
- Advising and representing senior executive employees (private sector, not for profit and government) in contract negotiations, employment disputes and separation from employment (including advice on exit strategies)
- Preparing for litigation on behalf of prosecuting authorities in relation to workplace entitlements and benefits
- Advising employers and employees on independent contracting arrangements and state and federal workplace relations systems, such as advising a not-for-profit Board of Directors on agreement making options for employers and employees
- Reviewing employee handbooks and policy documents for compliance with legislative requirements, including developing a handbook for a New Zealand company for its Australia operations
- Advising commercial entities on transmission of business including advice on agreement making options and employee entitlements
- Advocating on behalf of employers and employees in applications for workers' compensation, both at the review and appeal level
- Representing major government departments, employers and employees in the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal and Commission, Supreme Court, District Court, Magistrates' Courts, Industrial Magistrates' Court and Industrial Commissions.
