Architects place Queensland on the world stage

Macrossans Lawyers congratulates our architectural clients Donovan Hill and Peddle Thorp Architects, who as a joint venture won a national competition to design the new State Library of Queensland, which was officially opened on 24 November 2006.

Twice the size of the original library, the new State Library is spread over five-levels, with a new Indigenous Knowledge Centre, climate controlled repositories, 300 seat auditorium, international standard exhibition gallery, cafés, business/conference centre and an informal peoples gallery including dedicated spaces for children.

According to Premier Beattie: “The new building sets a very high benchmark for Australian State Libraries with its wonderfully welcoming environment, its sheer beauty and its state-of-the-art services.”

The joint venture team also designed the major new public plaza, landscape areas and new central services supporting all the facilities for the Queensland Cultural Centre.
